Jayla Charity Thomas was born July 20, 1993 in Las Vegas, Nevada.Jayla decided at an early age that she wanted to help people, and set her mind on becoming a doctor. When she told her parents about her goals, their advice included information on the importance of education – and, they have instilled a strong value to never give up no matter how difficult the situation.As a result, Jayla has consistently achieved academic success, pushing herself to be in accelerated classes, obtaining the distinct honor on the “A” Honor Roll. Jayla was inducted into the International Baccalaureate Program (IBP) at Valley High School when she applied for a high school program. (This program is an internationally recognized program that prepares high school students for college, and is comprised of a challenging curriculum, mature problem solving development, and multiple projects management. Furthermore, the IBP is designed to create well-rounded individuals and to prepare them for challenging fields of work.) While Jayla participated in the IBP, she balanced her academic responsibilities with participation in clubs, school sports, and many other extracurricular activities. Moreover, over the four years of her IBP studies, Jayla participated in basketball, track & field, Robotics, Key Club, Creative Writing Club, and completed over 350 hours of community service. Impressively, Jayla has ranked in the top ten percentile (graduating with a 4.2 GPA), with both an Advanced Honors Diploma and an International Baccalaureate Diploma. Jayla desires to pursue a post-secondary degree at St. John’s University in New York, in which she plans to study biology/pre-med towards becoming an anesthesiologist. Summarily, Jayla has demonstrated tenacity, perseverance, and commitment towards achieving the goal of becoming a doctor. She is depending on and appreciative for the support of her village family to ensure her being able to attend the college of her dreams and to help minimize her financial burden to accomplish this coveted goal.JAYLA THOMAS |
